Las Mil grullas de origami (千羽鶴 Senbazuru?) son un compendio de mil grullas de origami unidas por cuerdas.

Una antigua leyenda japonesa promete que cualquiera que haga mil grullas de papel recibirá un deseo de parte de una grulla, tal como una vida larga o la recuperación de una enfermedad.

Las mil grullas de origami se han vuelto un símbolo de paz, debido a la historia de Sadako Sasaki (1943-1955), una pequeña niña japonesa que deseó curarse de su enfermedad producida por la radiación de una bomba atómica (leucemia).

Existe un cuento de Elsa Bornemann, "Mil grullas", que trata el mismo tema: Naomi Watanabe y Toshiro Ueda son dos adolescentes de Hiroshima y él está visitando a sus abuelos, en la aldea de Miyashima cuando cae la bomba. Y luego la encuentra a Naomi en un hospital tratando de hacer grullas, Toshiro completa las mil y se las entrega a la chica, pero ésta muere al dia siguiente. (Wikipedia)

Thousand origami cranes (千羽鶴 Senbazuru?) is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes (鶴 tsuru) held together by strings. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. Some stories believe you are granted eternal good luck, instead of just one wish, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. This makes them popular gifts for special friends and family. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise) and is said to live for a thousand years: That is why 1000 cranes are made, one for each year. In some stories it is believed that the 1000 cranes must be completed within one year and they must all be made by the person who is to make the wish at the end. Cranes that are made by that person and given away to another aren't included: All cranes must be kept by the person wishing at the end. #Origami #Paper #Crafts
